Antique Silk Maltese Lace Flounce or Collar

The fluid lines of this elaborate Maltese lace are a testament to the skills of the lace maker. Made of ecru silk in three sections that are joined together by hand. Most pieces of authentic Maltese lace are assembled of sections that are rarely more than 6" wide. Featured within the pattern of the lace are the typical Maltese crosses and tiny "wheat ear" florettes.

Lace making in Malta was introduced in the mid 1800s by Genoese lace makers. Maltese lace is a type of guipure lace in which the design is held together by bars, or brides, rather than net.

Measures 6" wide by 41" long.
