19th Century Running Horses Chintz
Whole Cloth Quilt

A beautiful example of the whole cloth quilt dating to the first half of the 19th century. The chintz fabric features a pair of running horses with mountains and a river in the background the horses appear to be running across a field of roses and flowers. The colors are mostly blues and browns. Simple quilting in a diamond shape. The backing is homespun with self binding . Entirely sewn and quilted by hand with approximately 7 stitches per inch in the quilting. Originally made with the corners cut to fit a four poster bed.

Overall condition is very good with very faint, minor organic discoloration which blends with the patterns of the fabric. Fabrics are strong with no deterioration or dry rot.
