Strapless Vintage Fred Perlberg Evening Gown

with Velvet Roses

Dating to the late 1940s or early 1950s this vintage Fred Perlberg Dance Original is constructed of artfully draped black taffeta. The front silhouette calls to mind the

John Singer Sargent portrait of Madame X while the back is bustled and a splash of

color added with large pink velvet roses. Below the bustle are panels of taffeta that

trail behind forming a slight train. Paired with the simply fitted, strapless bodice the

effect is alluring and sophisticated.

The overall condition is very good with one small, eraser sized nick in the fabric on the

left hip as circled in photos. This is easily hidden within the draping of the fabric and is

so small as to be practically unnoticeable.

Bust ~32"
Waist ~ 26"
Length ~ 49"

Fred Perlberg began working the New York fashion industry when he was sixteen, and three years later, at the age of nineteen, he started his own company (around 1920).

Fred Perlberg Originals were mid-priced party and dance dresses and were marketed across the United States and Canada. Fred Perlberg retired in 1968, but the company continued with Roger Milot as the designer.
