Dating to the 1860s, these side lacing boots are made of elegant white silk satin. As such, they would not have been made for every day wear but more likely as evening or carriage boots.
The construction is typical of that found in shoes and boots of the 1860s with seaming at the center front and back, squared toe with rounded corners and a low knock-on heel. There is no right or left foot noticeable on the soles, another good indication of the age.
Silk laces are original. Though shown to the outside for photographic purposes, side laces were worn to the inside. The top edge is scalloped and bound in matching silk grosgrain binding. Eyelets are bound by hand. Cotton twill lining.
Condition is very good to excellent though there is some wear and soiling along the edges and a piece of fabric missing from the back of one heel. All in all a very presentable pair of fancy dress boots.
Measuring 2.25" wide and 10" long.
