According to the label sewn in the lining, this straw hat was made by Peggy in Worcester, Mass. Though we've not been able to determine who Peggy was, it is certain that she was a very fashionable milliner. This straw cloche is in excellent condition and a nice example of 1920's millinery style. It is simple yet elegant with it's brim shaped with artful folds, center front and back with a well placed decoration of orange blossoms to the back right. Orange blossoms were typically used for weddings so perhaps this was a wedding hat which would account for its excellent condition. It was probably a treasured memento of a brides special day. The straw is very fine and almost as transparent as the finest horsehair. The edge of the brim is bound with the same black silk as the lining. Inside circumference is approximately 22" with a crown depth of 5".
