Pre Teen Girl's Silk Party Dress
Circa 1860s

Made for a pre teen girl or perhaps slightly older this silk party dress in a blue and white pinstripe is quite beautiful in its simplicity. The bodice is gathered with a flat yoke and wide neckline. The short puffed sleeves are fitted with a blue silk ribbon threaded around the edge. Made up of silk "petals over tulle netting with embroidered sprigs they have the look of opening flowers. Delicate piping is found at the neckline, armscyes, yoke as well at the top and bottom of the set in waistband. Back closure with flat brass hooks and eyes. Wonderful cartridge pleating around the set in waist band for fullness. The dress is entirely hand stitched and fully lined in natural polished cotton.

Overall condition is very good to excellent with a few small spots and slight age discoloration that does not detract at all from the dress. The silk is soft and supple and free from shattering with no underarm discoloration at all.
