This gorgeous set dates to the 1930s. The style brings to mind Faye Dunaway in her role as Bonnie Parker. It is comprised of an aubergine knit skirt and top with chenille flowers worked into lighter colored "v" shaped insets in the sleeves and bodice. The outfit is complete with its original matching silk slip and suede belt.
The neckline of the bodice ties in the front and the sleeves close at the wrists with two crochet buttons and loops on each. A lighter aubergine color forms "v's" on the front and back of the bodice as well as inverted "v's" from the cuff upward on the outside of the sleeves. Within the lighter color, purple chenille flowers are worked into the knit.
The skirt is straight with elastic threaded through the open work at the waistline. Red silk has been used for the slip while deep aubergine suede makes up the belt.
Overall condition is very good with no stains, odors, holes or repairs. At some point the belt was unstitched at the buckle to make it slightly larger. This does not detract and could be re stitched in the proper position. There is a faint marking on the back side of the belt that I can not read, otherwise no labels.
