At first look this silk day dress seems rather subdued and understated. The details however speak to its quality and outstanding design. The underdress is made of white silk charmeuse that is covered with navy dots. It is attached to the chiffon overdress at the armscyes. The navy silk chiffon floats effortlessly with a deeply v'd front neckline which sports a narrow shawl collar whose tails are trimmed with the dotted fabric where they fall near knee length. The overdress features an opening at the center back that is caught up at the waistline with a row of self covered buttons on either side (the bottom button on the left side is missing), as well as side and front slits to the waistline. The dotted fabric provides contrast and texture at the cuffs and as piping on the sleeves, around the hemline and outlining the side slits in the skirt as well as the back.
The overall condition is good however the blue dye has bled onto dotted silk fabric at armscyes and has caused some splitting of this fabric. This is not noticeable when worn or displayed and could be reinforced from the interior without notice.
A beautifully detailed example.
