Knockout 1920's Lame & Velvet Coat Fully Reversible

Words and pictures just can't do justice to this spectacular 1920's coat. It is fully reversible with a stunning, stylized rose patterned lame on one side and simpler silk velvet and gold lame on the other. The lame side is trimmed with the most unusual tufted silk fabric at the hemline, cuffs and collar and the inside of the collar that frames the face is beautifully rusched velvet with two large rosettes that echo those in the lame. On the back, the tufted silk around the hemline outlines two large roses where the two fabrics meet. These roses have been embellished with gold metallic braid and sequins.

The reverse side is made up of brown silk velvet with bands of gold lame. The velvet that has been used to make up the main body of the coat is made with a shadow stripe, with the sleeves and hemline being made of a matching brown velvet with a plain weave.  No closure as the coat was meant to be worn loosely and drape gently around the body.

The overall condition of this coat is excellent and it is considered a museum quality piece. Certainly it was made by a fine, high quality designer of the period though there are no labels to indicate its true origin. The only flaws to be found are a repair to the back of the collar in the tufted silk that is very hard to find and hidden by the tufting. You may be able to see in photo three that the tufting around the back of the collar has also worn and is thin. Because of the rarity and design of this piece the value is not affected greatly by the thinning but it is mentioned so there are no surprises. There are no rips or holes other than the repair already mentioned. I found two small dime sized or smaller spots on the velvet of the left sleeve that I have not attempted to remove. They feel waxy and may be able to be removed carefully. Again, they do not detract from this spectacular piece.
