Handmade Brussels Rose Point Lace Lappets
A beautiful fall cap of Brussels Rose Point lace has been skillfully made utilizing dense and less dense stitching in the clothwork to create a naturalistic shaded effect in the floral pattern. Fall caps replaced the separate caps and lappets worn in the 18th century and were worn by 19th century lady’s at formal indoor events in the 1870s and 1880s.
Point de Gaze lace is a form of Brussels needlepoint lace that is sometimes referred to as Brussels Rose Point lace which is differentiated by the tiered petals that give the lace its name. This cap with its floral design is enhanced by the three dimensional effect created by this layering. The petals are worked separately and then attached to the body of the lace around their outer edges with their scalloped inner edges left free.
