American Tobacco Silk Premium Circa 1910
From the Bathing Beach Girl series by American Tobacco Company produced circa 1910, this silk premium was given away in cigarette packages. Premiums were collected and used in many decorative household items such as crazy quilts and pillow covers. They are desirable today as frameable collectibles as well as to be used in the restoration of period silk crazy quilts.
This beauty represents Nantucket. She is seated on a plank suspended over the water. In her right hand she holds a rope strung with flags or banners, one with a nautical anchor. Wearing a green bathing dress and matching cap, black stockings and white bathing shoes of the period. Measuring approximately 4.75" by 6.25". Condition is excellent with expected fraying at the top and bottom edges. Colors are crisp and bright. Perfect for framing.
