1920s Silk & Velvet Beach Pajamas
Popularized by the designs of Chanel, the beach pajama of the 1920's was often made of silk and consisted of a tunic and long, wide legged pants. This is made of silk in a colorful floral print and also includes a vest and matching belt of royal blue silk panne velvet. The tunic is made with long sleeves trimmed at the cuffs with matching panne velvet. The neckline is a modified "v" tying in the front, no closure as it is loose enough to slip on over the head. The pants are made with an elasticized waist line though the elasticity has gone. The legs terminate at the ankles with ruching and a cuff that ties to the outside.
Lined in the floral silk, the vest falls to mid thigh and has two patch pockets on the front. Parallel rows of stitching provide simple embellishment at the front opening and pockets of the vest and are echoed on the cuffs and belt. The belt has a metal clasp with concentric circles of gold, copper and silver tones and is meant to be worn loosely and casually over the hips.
The overall condition of all pieces is very good to excellent. No underarm staining, no rips, holes or repairs. There are a couple of very faint discolorations on the pant legs however they are very difficult to see as they blend in with the pattern and do not detract at all from the wearability of this ensemble.
