1870s Men's Beaded Slippers
Men's slipper or house shoes, though common in the Victorian era, are difficult to find and a treasure to own. Worn only in the home they do not show the wear of other types of shoes that would have been worn out of doors and for active occupations. Many embroidered and beaded slippers were worked at home by women for their husbands or sons.
These exceptional men's slippers or house shoes combine needlepoint and bead work. Dating to the 1870s with a leather sole and stacked heel. The interior is lined with leather as well. Throat is bound with wool twill binding tape that does have wear along the edges. Most of the needle and bead work is intact however there are a few area of loss, mainly on the heels.
Even with the losses the condition is excellent.
